In 1855 miller Eduard Remy bought a watermill near the city of Leuven in Belgium and started milling rice grains to extract rice starch. This natural starch was broadly used to give clothing a perfect, crease-free finish, and to protect the fibres from dirt infiltration and wear. By the beginning of the 20th century, Remy was a world leader in the production and distribution of rice starch.
Over the next 100 years, the company evolved into two separate branches: the industrial applications of rice starch, and the consumer brand Remy, the expert in caring for your clothes. The latter was bought by the Claes family and associates in 2010. Their goal? To revive and reinforce this local heritage brand in textile care.
Linseed oil, pressed from linseed of the flax flower, has specific properties for a wide range of applications, from food and paint to soap and detergents. This versatility gave miller Gustave Vandeputte in 1887 the idea to press linseed in his windmill in south-west Flanders.
Over the next 135 years, consecutive generations of the Vandeputte family have developed the company into a substantial business with a global reach. Today, Vandeputte Group is an established leader in the development and manufacturing of private label liquid detergents, Oleo chemistry and Oil milling. It distinguishes itself as a key player in sustainable cleaning.
In 1946 Jules Robert Christeyns founded a soap factory near the Belgian city Ghent. From the start, Christeyns developed and produced soaps and detergents for the professional cleaning and laundry industry in Belgium. Over the next 40 years, the factory expanded steadily. A process that continued after the Bostoen family acquired the company in 1989, which marked the beginning of a global expansion that continues to this day.
